Thumbnail Pages Explained

NOTE: A number of short and informal instructional videos is included below (requires QuickTime). If you want to see an explanatory video of a certain subject or feature, please let us know.

For the purposes of this article we will be using the Classic Style. All of the features described below are also available in the PV2 Style but the location of various features is somewhat different.

After clicking on a group in the Complete Group Index or your Personal Group List, you will be presented with a thumbnail page (typically, you will be presented with the first page of the most current day with the files listed alphabetically). The number of thumbnails displayed will depend on the thumbnail size you selected (large or small) and the current size of your browser window. Clicking on the thumbnail of an image file will display the full-size version of that image. Clicking on the thumbnail of a video will display a page containing a preview image of the video and links to download or view the video.

Navigating to the Next Page

Directly below the thumbnails is a list of pages and days available. To advance to the next page of thumbnails, you can click on the Next bar on the right side of the thumbnails, the Next link on the right side of the page numbers listed below the thumbnails, or you can press the right arrow key on your keyboard. If you are on the last page of a particular day, advancing will take you to the first page of thumbnails for the next day (if you are on the last page of the most current day, advancing will take you to the first page of the earliest available day). Clicking on a date will display the first page of thumbnails of the selected day.

Changing Thumbnail Size

Large and Small Thumbnail Sizes

While the number of files available on a particular day remains constant, the number of pages available can change depending on the number of thumbnails displayed. For example, if you change the thumbnail size from large to small (by clicking on the Small link below the list of days), more thumbnails will be displayed on the current page, potentially resulting in less page numbers. (The link for thumbnail size will toggle between Small and Big.)

Selecting Small Thumbnail Size

Adding and Subtracting Rows and Columns

In addition to being able to change the size of the thumbnails, you can also add and subtract rows and columns of thumbnails. Just to the right of the Small link in the image above are links for adjusting the number of rows and columns. Click the +col link to add a column, -col to remove a column, +rowto add a row, -row to subtract a row.

Adding the Current Group to Your Personal Group List

Below the list of days is the group name, day, and page number currently being displayed (they are also displayed in the title bar of your browser window) as as well as a link for adding the group to your Personal Group List (PGL). (If the group is already in your PGL, the link will allow you to remove the group.) Groups can also be added to your PGL from the Complete Group Index using the checkboxes in the PGL column.

Get Buttons

The Get Buttons Used for Batch Downloading

The Get buttons are used in conjunction with the text table below to perform batch downloads (i.e., downloading multiple files in a single zip file).

Text Table

Each file represented by a thumbnail at the top of the window is also listed in the text table below the Get buttons. The list of files can be sorted by clicking on any of the clickable labels in the top row of the table (e.g., File Name, Size, Author, Subject).

# Column

The # column lists numbers for each file (file number 1 corresponds to the the upper left thumbnail and file number 2 corresponds to the thubmnail just to right of the first one). Clicking the Show link allows you access the Slide Show mode (click the Previous and Next links or press the left and right arrow keys on your keyoboard to move through the images in the slide show).

Text Table Batch Download Buttons Column

The second column provides controls for performing batch downloads.

File Name Column

The File Name link works as a toggle, sorting the list in either alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order. Click on any of the filenames listed below the File Name link to access the selected file. If a movie file is listed, links for both the video itself and a video preview image will be listed.

Size Column

The Size link works as a toggle, sorting the list of files from smallest to largest or largest to smallest.

Author Column

The Author link works as a toggle, sorting the list based on author in either alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order. Click on a name to e-mail the poster of the file (please note that posters often use bogus addresses when posting files). Click the More link to perform a search for other files by the author.

Text Column

Clicking the Text link adjacent to a file will display a text file containg the header information of the selected posting.

Subject Column

The Subject link works as a toggle sorting the list based on subject in either alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order. Sorting by subject can be helpful when there are multiple series with identical filenames posted.
